E. Virginia Myers Noe

E. Virginia Myers Noe, retired teacher-counselor of Marietta High School, died Thursday (Feb. 7, 2008).
Born Oct. 6, 1914, she was the daughter of Ben Blake Myers and Minna Nieb Myers.
Mrs. Noe was educated in the Marietta City Schools, and in 1937 received her degree with final honors in English from Marietta College, where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and Chi Omega sorority. She continued her graduate work at both Ohio State and Ohio universities. From 1937 to 1943, Mrs. Noe remained on the staff of Marietta College, and then moved to Charleston, S.C., where, for two years, she worked for the Navy as assistant to the secret librarian of the Sixth Naval District. On April 24, 1943, she was married to Lester E. Noe.
Upon returning to Marietta, Mrs. Noe began her 26 year teaching career at Marietta High School, serving also in guidance and college counseling; as chairman of the English Department; and as adviser to the National Honor Society and its many winning scholarship teams.
Mrs. Noe served as president of the Marietta branch of the American Association of University Women and as state fellowship chairman of AAUW; as president of the Girls' Board of the Betsy Mills Club; and was a member of the Junior Reading Club, National and State Education Associations, and the National Travel Club. She and her husband had traveled extensively.
Mrs Noe was a member of the Presbyterian Church where she was especially involved with the youth groups and their annual trips. In addition to her parents and an older brother, Lloyd, she was preceded in death by her husband Lester Noe who passed away Dec. 8, 1990.
Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church, Marietta, in the small chapel with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Chapel Organ Fund, First Presbyterian Church, 501 Fourth St., Marietta, Ohio 45750.
