Rittel, 76, will be held at 2p.m. today (Wednesday) at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Boyd Blumer officiating. Burial will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors by the Sturgis Color Guard. Arrangements are under the direction of Kinkade Funeral Chapel. A memorial has been established to the First United Methodist Church and Fort Meade Veterans Administration Hospital. William Rittel died at his home in Sturgis on July 21. He was born at Bowdle on Sept. 21, 1909 to David and Emma Rittel. He moved to Highmore in 1918 where he grew up. He was married to Alla Dalton at Highmore on Feb. 9, 1941. They lived at Highmore until 1954. He served in the Army as medic in WWII. After his discharge he worked for Charles Goehring Ranch prior to starting his own ranch. He sold his ranch in 1954 and the family moved to Sturgis where he worked as a well driller and for Anderson Service Station. He also worked at Fort Meade Veterans Administration Medical Center for 14 years and for Ted Dries Repair for 10 years. For the past 10 years he had operated his own small engine repair shop. He was a member of the Olive Branch 47 AF and AM Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and the First United Methodist Church. He also was a DAV volunteer at Ft. Meade. Survivor information omitted for privacy He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Adeline.
