A service for Edward Guterl, 90, of Lyndhurst will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the United Presbyterian Church of Lyndhurst after the funeral from the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Rd., Lyndhurst.
Mr. Guterl, who died Saturday at home, was a butcher with Eddies Market, a business started by his late father, in Jersey City for many years until 1980. He then worked with his son, Edward, at his construction business in Lyndhurst for 20 years.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 1st Armored Division and participated in the North African Campaign and the Invasion of Anzio. Mr. Guterl received his military training at Fort Knox, Ky.
He was a member of the Barringer-Walker Lopinto American Legion Post 139, Lyndhurst, for 54 years and the 1st Armored Division Association for 58 years. Mr. Guterl was also a past deacon at the United Presbyterian Church of Lyndhurst.
Born in Jersey City, he moved to Lyndhurst 54 years ago.
Surviving are sons, Edward and James; a daughter, Alice; a sister, Esther Grant, and four grandchildren.
