George F. Ofenloch, 86, of Stroudsburg, died on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the loving husband of Jeanne F. (Donohue) Ofenloch, with whom he had celebrated 42 years of marriage.
Born in Hicksville, N.Y., he was the son of the late John and Matilda (Fleishbein) Ofenloch. George was a resident of the Stroudsburg area for the past 26 years and, prior to that, he resided in the Bethpage, N.Y., area. He was a sergeant with the Nassau County Police Department for 25 years, retiring in 1974.
George was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church of Stroudsburg and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
In addition to his wife, Jeanne, he is survived by his daughter, Diane Stambler and her husband, Allan, of Bay Shore, N.Y., and a stepson, Edward J. Leahy and his wife, Cindy, of Jamaica, N.Y.; two sisters, Clara McCormick and Caroline Ofenloch; and six grandchildren: Michelle and her husband, Joseph, Matthew, Christine, Philip, Laurine and James.
There will be no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 818 Main St., Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Carmen Perry as celebrant.
