Hazel Fries Hazel Louise Fries, 84, of Shadyside, formerly of Smithfield, Ohio, died Monday, May 3, 2004 in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Wheeling. Hazel was born Aug. 3, 1919 in Wheeling, W. Va., a daughter of the late Richard and Carrie Bott Farmer. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Shadyside. In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her husband; Ronald W. Fries on Dec. 21, 2001, a daughter, Nancy Jean Fries; one brother, Harold Farmer, and two sisters, Rhea Rodewig and Katheryn Matzke. Surviving are her daughter, Rona Matheny and her husband, John of Valrico, Florida and two grandchildren; Kristen and Kevin Matheny. Friends will be received on Thursday, May 6, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3900 Central Ave., Shadyside, where services will be held on Friday, May 7, at 10 a.m., with Rev.
