  [S927] Obituary. Stanley H. Merrow, 88, formerly of 1310 Colegate Drive, Marietta, died at 6:55 a.m. Friday (Feb. 13, 2009) at Holzer Assisted Living in Gallipolis. He was born March 18, 1920, in Whipple, a son of John and Bertha Nieb Merrow. He retired from Elkem Metals after 33 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Marietta. Stanley was well known for his carpentry work and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers. In his later years, playing his banjo gave him great pleasure. His wife, Mary Ruth Lawrence Merrow, died Feb. 11, 2009. They were married Sept. 23, 1947. He is survived by five children: Gary (Linda) Merrow of Belpre, Linda (Jeff) Biles, of Groveport, Rhonda (Robert) Burlile of Gallipolis, Gregory (Diana) Merrow of Marietta, and Cindy (Mike) Tanner, of Silver Springs, Md.; eight grandchildren, Michelle Merrow Wagner, and Jimmy Merrow, Lawrence, John, and Robert Biles, Amanda and Corey Burlile and Gregory Merrow Jr.; four step grandchildren, Heath Ivey, Kristy Grasley, and Matt and John Tanner; and one great-granddaughter, Alexandra Grace Wagner; five brothers, Kurt (Elsie) Merrow, John (Betty) Merrow Jr., Norman (Teressa) Merrow, Oscar Merrow, and Clyde (Sherry) Merrow; two sisters, Jenny Predmore and Etola Burwell. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Virginia Hall. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly with Evangelist Zack Waite officiating. Internment will be Waterford Cemetery with military services at the grave site.
