- [S927] Obituary.
BOMBERGER, DOROTHY,
Gainesville - Dorothy Bomberger passed away on July 30, 2013 after a brief illness. She was a resident of the Village at the time. Dorothy was born in Hebron, Nebraska on June 9, 1919, one of seven children of William and Cecilia Rempe. After graduation from Hebron High School she moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1937 where she worked as a bookkeeper and secretary. There she met and, in 1942, married Arthur Bomberger. Separated by war for the first three years of marriage, they were inseparable thereafter until his death in 1986. She became a full time homemaker after the birth of their son in 1946 but returned to her career several years later. She was an avid and accomplished bowler and was very skilled with her hands in such disparate areas as cake decoration (which added to the enjoyment of numerous celebrations) and the creation of intricate and gorgeous Christmas ornaments which adorn the Christmas trees of her family from coast to coast each December.
She and her husband retired and moved to Gainesville in 1980 where she lived and was loved by many neighbors and friends until her death. The ravages of arthritis rendered her earlier pursuits more difficult with time but, with great determination, she continued them as long as possible before switching to other contributions. These contributions included more than three decades of active participation in Holy Faith Church (particularly the crafts group) and similar service as a member of the Board of Directors of the Koch Foundation.
She leaves special memories to many, among them her son, William Bomberger, and his wife, Carolyn Bomberger of Gainesville; grandchildren, Rachel Bomberger of Tampa, Elizabeth Bomberger of New York City, Matthew Bomberger and his wife Michelle Hayden Bomberger of Seattle, and great grandchildren, Daniel and Kyra Bomberger of Seattle; sisters, Margaret Arnold of Bennett, Nebraska and (Sister) Sharon Rempe of St. Louis and brother, Joseph Rempe of Lincoln, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Rose Scheck and (Sister) Mary Rempe and her brother, Paul Rempe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 9:00 a.m., at Holy Faith Catholic Church, with Fr. John Phillips as Celebrant. A reception will follow in the church hall. She will return to Lincoln, Nebraska for burial. Arrangements are under the care of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to Holy Faith Catholic Church, 747 NW 43rd Street, Gainesville, FL 32607.
