Lester M. ''Les'' Yahner, 88, of Champion, died at 1:05 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at his daughter's residence.
He was born Sept. 17, 1919, in Patton, Pa., to the late William and Edith Gay Black Yahner, coming to Champion in 1956.
He was a 1936 graduate of Patton High School.
He retired in 1983 from Van Huffel Tube Corp., where he was a maintenance man for 24 years. He previously worked at Heltzel Steel Corp.
He belonged to St. William Church. He was a lifetime member of the Patton Moose Club, and a member of the Champion K of C John K. Mahaney Council 7491.
Mr. Yahner enjoyed woodworking and crossword puzzles.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of technical sergeant.
Lester married Christine ''Chris'' Matteotti Yahner on June 19, 1948, and she passed away April 2, 1998.
He is survived by two sons, Frank A. Bertuzzi Sr. of Champion and William A. (Maryann) Yahner of Morgantown, W.Va.; two daughters, Patricia (Jack) Liepold of Champion and Paula (William) Humason of Champion; two sisters, Marjorie Keith of Somerset, Pa., and Elaine McCloskey of Pittsburgh; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; four brothers, Rubin, Leonard, Donald and Modestus Yahner; a sister, Emma Morgan; daughter-in-law, Amelia ''Millie'' Bertuzzi; and a granddaughter, Jackie Baker.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. William Church with celebrant the Rev. Michael D. Balash. Friends may call 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel, and also one-half hour prior to services Monday at the church. Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery with military honors.
