LAKE LEELANAU - Elizabeth Mary VerSnyder, 79, died at her Lake Leelanau home Sunday, March 7, 2004. She was born Nov. 26, 1924, in Traverse City, the daughter of Otto and Cecilia (Walter) Schaub. On June 15, 1948, she married Peter M. VerSnyder in Lake Leelanau. He preceded her in death in 1962. A excellent baker, Elizabeth worked for 22 years in the Manitou Market bakery. She loved to play cards and looked forward to entertaining family and friends while visiting at her home. She was very talented at crocheting and made many afghans for her family and many friends. She was a member of St. Mary's parish. Elizabeth is survived by four children, Jean Groesser, Mary Hubschneider, William VerSnyder and Robert VerSnyder; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; her sisters, Esther Loe, Margaret Hawley, Hilda Peplinski, Edith Schaub and Ruth Gauthier; and a brother, Tom Schaub. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Schaub; and a daughter, Jane Gleason. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 13, at St. Mary's Catholic church in Lake Leelanau, with the Rev. Jerry Hunko, celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
