  TRAVERSE CITY - Elaine F. Thomas, 74, of Traverse City, died Sunday at Munson Medical Center.Born Nov. 9, 1925, in Traverse City, she was the daughter of Francis P. and Frances Mae (Swaney) Weatherholt.On June 18, 1948, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mapleton, she married Oscar Thomas.Before moving to Traverse City in 1995, Elaine was a lifelong resident of Old Mission Peninsula. She worked as a registered nurse at Munson Medical Center for 18 years. She also worked with her husband in his business, Thomas Oil Company, before retiring in 1984. Elaine was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church Ladies Guild and the Catholic Daughters of America and was an honorary member of the Old Mission Woman's Club. She worked for many years on the Peninsula Township election committee.Survivors include her husband, Oscar, of Traverse City; two sons, Thomas (Dawn) Thomas of Traverse City and Jon (Terri) Thomas of Traverse City; four sisters, Patricia Wolf of Traverse City, Muriel Donoghue of Rochester Hills, Jean Gleason of Hart, and Joyce Culver of Houston; a brother, Philip Weatherholt of Traverse City; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.Elaine was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Gerald.Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes with a Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mapleton; the Rev. Patrick Barrett will serve as celebrant.Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be directed to Leukemia Research.
