Catherine E. "Kate" Bauer, 83, of Roanoke passed away Friday October 15, 2010 at 5:46 pm at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. She was a school bus driver with Huntington County Schools, was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Rosary Society, Amicitia Homemakers Club, and American Legion Auxiliary. She was an avid seamstress, making hundreds of lap robes for charity.
Catherine was born February 19, 1927 in Huntington County, the daughter of Herman and Mamie (Landrigan) Scher. On October 23, 1948 she married Leonard W. Bauer in Huntington, who preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 1980. Surviving are four daughters Susan Beshay of Anderson, IN, Sister Colleen Bauer S.S.N.D. of Goshen, IN, Peggy Jo (Peter) Bray of West Bend, WI, and Sheila (Loren Pickford) Bauer of New Orleans, LA, four grandchildren Cheyanne Ritz, Bryan Ritz, Andrew Bray, Nicole Bray, four sisters Pat Meyer of Fort Wayne, Ginny Bauer of Huntington, IN, Mary (Jerry) Juergens of Syracuse, IN, Martha (Bill) Pyle of Huntington, IN, and two brothers Lawrence (Ann) Scher and Leonard (Janet) Scher of Huntington, IN. She was preceded in death by a son Douglas Bauer, a daughter Marla Bauer and two brothers Tom and Phil Scher.
Mass of Christian Burial services will be held at 4 pm Monday, October 18, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Roanoke with Fr. Kenneth Sarrazine officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Roanoke. Visitation will be Sunday, October 17, 2010 from 2 to 6 pm at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Home with a vigil service at 5:30 pm, and from 3 to 4 pm at the church on Monday.
