Louis Joseph O'Brien, 87, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012 at his home in Traverse City.
Louis was born on August 10, 1924 in Lake Leelanau, the son of Earl and Hilda (Priest) O'Brien. He was employed by Cone Drive Gear for 28 years and Cadillac Gage for 7 years. Louis was a member of VFW, American Legion, Elks, and served in the United States Navy. He loved playing cards such as bridge, euchre, pinochle, and hearts. He enjoyed following all major sports games with the exception of hockey and had season tickets for the Beach Bums every year.
Louis is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Kay (Brzyski) O'Brien; children, David (Linda) O'Brien, Susan (Alberto) Menendez, Joseph O'Brien, Patricia O'Brien, Kathleen Schaden, and Daniel (Cheryl) O'Brien; step-children, Suzanne (Jeff) Halm, Nancy Groszek, Diane (Mark) Sternberg, and Don (Susan) Groszek; siblings, Patrick O'Brien, Harold (Helen) O'Brien, Arthur (Judy) O'Brien, Dennis (Jane) O'Brien, Doris Peplinski, Ann O'Brien, and Joan (Louis) Herman; 20 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
Preceding Louis in death is his wife, Rosalind; sons Richard and Stephen; and brothers, Bernard, James, Glen, and Marvin.
Visitation will be held Friday, Feb 3 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City, with a Rosary at 7:30 pm. Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb 4 at 11 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Rev. Anthony Citro presiding. Memorial contributions may be made to Father Fred Foundation.
