Nick was born on July 24, 1919, in Timmer, ND, the son of Frank and Eva (Gerhardt) Kuntz. He attended country school in Fallon until the eighth grade, and one year of high school in Mandan. Nick entered the US Army and served his country from June 1942-1945. Upon his honorable discharge, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. Nick married Johanna Mosbrucker on January 8, 1946 and to that union they raised seven children. They settled in the Flasher area where Nick worked for Albrecht Johnson as a mechanic for 27 years. Nick took over the business in 1973 and ran this until his retirement in 1986. Jenny died December 31, 1984. Nick later married Carol Miller (Gustin) on September 26, 1986 and moved to Bismarck. Carol passed away in 1999. Nick worked for Corpus Christi Church for eleven years where he made many dear friends.
Nick was a man of great faith, kindness, and integrity; which he passed onto his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed playing pinochle with his buddies, or anyone with a deck of cards. He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan, enjoyed listening to old-time polka music and put many beautiful puzzles together in his later years. Nick had a very inquisitive mind and kept himself up to date on space exploration, especially anything happening on Mars. Nick was proud to receive an honorary diploma from Mandan High School in 2006. Nick was also a sixty year charter member of the Flasher American Legion Post. In his later years, he became a wonderful cook, specializing in homemade lemon meringue pie; he also taught himself embroidery.
