ZANESVILLE -- Mary L. Malone McCarty, 86, of Grove City, formerly of Zanesville, died June 20, 2006, at Doctors Hospital West, Columbus.
Mary was born Nov. 10, 1919, to Nicholas and Genevieve (Burkhart) Malone. She married Robert McCarty Sr. and was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and a former member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Mary went to Meredith Business College after high school and from there went to live in Washington D.C. during World War II and worked for the Federal Housing Administration. When she came back to Zanesville after the war she and her sister Alma took over the cafeteria program at St. Nicholas School at the request of Father Drury and took it out of debt and continued there for 13 years. In 1991 she and Bob moved to Grove City. Mary was an avid reader and an excellent cook with her specialty being her potato salad. Mary loved her family and spending many vacations with them whether it be the Outer Banks, Boston, or Disney World. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing ball of any sort and was a good support person for them.
In addition to her husband of 58 years, Mary is survived by four sons; Thomas L. and Leta of Parkersburg, W.Va., Michael Q. and Connie and Robert L. and Cindy of Grove City and John J. and Felecia of Canal Winchester; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Joe and Marsha and Pat Malone of Zanesville, Mike and Kathleen of Lewisville and Jim and Sue Malone of Gahanna; three sisters Clara and Red Synan, Alma Miller and Rita and Bill Wagner of Zanesville; and many nieces, nephews and friends she met through the years.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by one sister, Jean.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, June 22, at the Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home 935 Forest Ave. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2006, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, with Father Robert Kitsmiller as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery.
