Birth: Jan. 7, 1896 Eureka McPherson County South Dakota, USA Death: Aug. 14, 1970 Eureka McPherson County South Dakota, USA Northwest Blade, Eureka, SD, August 1970 – EUREKA – Funeral services for Mrs. August (Mary) Bender, 74, Eureka, were held Tuesday afternoon August 18, at 2 p.m. at the Eureka Reformed Church with the Rev. Howard Hart officiating. Following an illness of about eight years, Mrs. Bender passed away at the Lutheran Home in Eureka Friday evening, August 14, after suffering a heart attack. Born Jan. 7, 1896, at Eureka in McPherson County, she was the daughter of John Lapp and Augustina nee Waesch. On Nov. 26, 1914, she was married to August Bender at the Calvin Reformed Church of rural Eureka. They made their home on a farm near Eureka until 1929 when they moved to the city of Eureka. She was a member of the Eureka Reformed Church. Survivors are her husband, August, Eureka; three daughters, Mrs. Lewis (Verona) Papendick and Mrs. Melroy (Mildred) Job, both of Eureka; and Marilyn Bender, Minneapolis, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. Henry (Martha) Gross, Jamestown, N. Dak.; and Mrs. John J. (Emelia) Opp, Eureka; four grandchildren, Richard, Laurie and Michael Job and Lew Wayne Papendick, Eureka. Preceding her in death were her parents, one daughter, one sister, and five brothers.
