Robert Eugene Klunk, 70, died peacefully at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at his residence after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Jerseyville on Sept. 26, 1937, the son of Alfred and Dorothy (Bartlett) Klunk.
He married the former Janet Roth on June 4, 1960, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville and they shared 48 years together.
Growing up on a farm, he learned early on the value of family, hard work and honesty. He began working at International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville and later at Jerseyville Motor Company, where he retired after 50 years of service as an auto body technician.
Their marriage was blessed with three daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Lester Beirman, Kim and David Smith and Lori and Joe Travers, all of Jerseyville; eight grandchildren and two spouses, Marci and Rob Hall, Matthew Bierman, Krista Smith, Kurt and Nikki Smith, Katelyn Smith and Brett, Kylie and Chase Travers, all of Jerseyville; three great-grandchildren, Sadye and Chloe Hall and Madison Beirman; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet and Robert Lake and Betty Schnettgoecke of Carrollton and Doris and Frederick Egelhoff of Jerseyville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Henrietta Klunk of Kane, and Edwin and Karen Klunk of Jerseyville; and his canine companion, Jack.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Sadie (Hazelwonder) Roth.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, with a 3:30 p.m. rosary service, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville. Father William Hembrow will officiate.
Burial will be at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville.
Memorials may be made to Masses, St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools or the Blessing Hospice of Greene County.
