Reuben Bender Birth: Dec. 19, 1920 Zeeland McIntosh County North Dakota, USA Death: Sep. 13, 2011 Ipswich Edmunds County South Dakota, USA Reuben Bender, 90, of Ipswich, died Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen. Reuben was born December 19, 1920 to Martin and Friedricka(Schnabel) Bender at Zeeland, ND. He was raised on a farm and attended country school. He married Valinda Opp on February 2, 1944 in Venturia, ND. They made their first home in Fredonia, ND before moving to a farm 5 1/2 miles northeast of Ipswich, SD in 1948. They sold their farm in 1996 and moved into Ipswich. Valinda passed away on February 16, 2001. Reuben continued to make Ipswich his home until his health started to fail and he moved to Aberdeen in January of 2005. Reuben had been an active member of the First Baptist Church in Ipswich since 1952. He had served there in many different capacities including being on the Board of Deacons, Board of Trustees and as a member of the Men's Brotherhood. He loved to help serve the men's pancake dinners at the church. He was also a Gideon for 37 years. To Reuben, there were no strangers as he loved to visit with people. However, most importantly in his life, was his enduring faith in Jesus as his savior. He is survived by his son, Cornie(Leiften)Bender of Marion, IA; his daughter, Bonnie Belving of Henderson, CO, his sister, LaRue Opp of Aberdeen; five grandsons Jeff Bender, Carey Bender, Tim Stevens, Jared Stevens and Braxton Belving and eight Great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, brothers Reiny, Alfred, Herman, Jake, Gideon and Emil and his sisters Ada and Ella. Funeral services for Reuben will be at the First Baptist Church in Ipswich. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen, SD.
