He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Bender, of Lodi; a daughter, Shirley Kemp of Galt; a son Jim Bender of Lodi; a sister, Eleanor Schmierer of Fresno; two step-sisters, Bertha Kammerer of Lodi and Mary Schultz of Elk Grove; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Bender in 1992; a sister Christine Pankow; seven stepbrothers; George, August, Robert, Emil, Jacob, Albert and Adolph Knoll; and six step-sisters, Emma Grenz, Katie Lippert, Christina Goehring, Martha Knoll, Phillpina Knoll and Ida Batch.
