Katherina "Katie" Denning Bender-Knoll Birth: Sep. 20, 1892, Russian Federation Death: Jun. 26, 1979 Lodi San Joaquin County California, USA Katherine "Katie" (Denning)Bender,Knoll, 86, of 950 S. Fairmont Ave. died Tuesday afternoon in a local hospital following an extended illness. Born in Friedenstall, South Russia, she came to America with her parents, Christian and Christina(Knodel)Denning, in 1905. She grew up and went to school in the Danzig, ND., area and was married there in December 12,1913 to August Bender. They made their home west of Venturia, N.D., where they farmed. In 1920, the family moved to Wishek, ND, and in 1922, moved to a farm northwest of Venturia, ND, where they lived until 1935 when they sold the farm and moved to Victor CA. They moved to Lodi in 1944 and Mr. Bender died in 1947. In 1952 Katie married Jacob Knoll of Lodi. He died in 1965. She has been a member of the First Baptist church of Lodi since 1935. Katie is survived by one son, Reinhold "Riney" Bender of Lodi; two daughters, Mrs. Anna Christine Pankow of Lodi, and Mrs. Eleanor Schmierer of San Jose; two stepsons August Knoll and Adolph Knoll, both of Lodi; four step-daughters, Ida Batch of Lodi, Bertha Kammerer of Lodi, Emma Grenz of Acampo and Mary Schultz of Elk Grove; one sister Christina Marzolf of Wishek,ND; one brother, Jacob Denning of Lehr, ND; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services in the Lodi Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, June 29, 3PM. Rev. G.G. Rauser and Rev. Jake Leverette, officiating.
