Jacob Knoll Birth: Aug. 22, 1870 Death: Sep. 28, 1965 Jacob Knoll, 95, the only active charter member of the Mennonite Brethren Church of Lodi, died Tuesday morning in his home at 401 Hilborn St. following a short illness. A native of South Russia, Jacob married Christina Wanner on Sept 16, 1888 in Kassel, Gluckstal, South Russia. He moved his family to the United States in 1895 and settled in SD. The family then moved to Cathay, ND in 1896 and then to Harvey, ND 1897. In 1908 they moved to Victor, CA. Jacob and Christina had 13 children. Jacob was active in grape farming and shipping fruit and also farmed grain land in Sutter County and farmed and operated five dairies at Chowchilla from his Victor home. He was the proprietor of the Victor Winery from 1933 to 1960. He retired from ranching in 1948 and moved to his home in Lodi. He was a past member of the Farm Bureau, the State Chamber of Commerce and a trustee of the Mennonite Brethren Church which he helped found and organize. The church was established in January 1 1915, and celebrated its 50 anniversary this year. He is survived by his wife Katie, four sons; George, August and Adolph, all of Lodi, Jacob J. of Chowchilla, five daughters; Mrs. Christina Goehring, Mrs. Ida Batch and Mrs. Bertha Kammerer, all of Lodi, Mrs. Emma Grenz of Acampo and Mrs. Mary Schultz of Elk Grove, one Step-Son, Riney Bender of Lodi, two Step-Daughters, Mrs. Christine Pankow of Lockeford and Mrs. Eleanor Schmierer of Belmont, 40 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren. Services were held Friday October 1, 1965 at the First Baptist Church of Lodi. Reverends, Aaron Buhler of the First Baptist Church, Arno Wiebe of the Mennonite Brethren Church and Robert Seibel of the Mennonite Brethren Church of Reedly, officiated. Interment will be at the Lodi Memorial Cemetery.
