Beck, 96, of Ashley and formerly of Eureka, SD will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley. The Rev. Linda J. Schauer will officiate. Burial will be at 4:00 pm in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Eureka, SD. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Frieda died February 14, 2015 at Ashley Nursing Home. Frieda M. Goehring, daughter of John and Lydia (Fauth) Goehring was born May 5, 1918 on the family homestead eight miles northeast of Eureka. This is where she grew up while attending country school. She worked on the family farm. She was united in marriage to Emil Beck on September 5, 1937 in Zion Lutheran Church at Eureka. They made their home and farmed with her parent’s for eight and a half years. Frieda’s parents moved into Eureka and then Emil and Frieda took over operation of the farm. They raised small grains and livestock. In 1976, they retired and sold the farm and moved into Eureka. In October of 2002, they moved to Ashley to be close to their daughter, Sonja. Frieda loved to quilt and made so many quilts over the years for people to enjoy. When she and Emil were younger, they bowled on a couple’s league. Frieda was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Eureka and Eureka Couple’s Bowling League. Grateful for having shared Frieda’s life is her son, John E. (Mary) Beck of Golden, CO; daughter, Sonja (Stan) Schnabel of Ashley; five grandchildren, Deb (Bobby Hewitt) Kendall, Neil (Kristie) Schnabel, Mike (Barb Herivel) Schnabel, Barry (Deb) Beck and Bobbi Beck and six great-grandchildren, Travis Schnabel, Erin Kendall, Blaire Schnabel, Lauren Herivel, Taylor Beck and Jordan Beck. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Martha Neuhardt, brother, Walter Fauth and daughter-in-law, Carol Beck. Honorary Casketbearers and Casketbearers will be Frieda’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family prefers memorials to Ashley Medical Center.
