  [S927] Obituary. Duane William Handel, 72 Duane William Handel died Nov. 2 at his Los Ba??os home. He was 72. Mr. Handel was born Feb. 27, 1934 in Menno, S.D. to William and Annetta Handel. He attended rural grade school and graduated from Menno High School in 1952. He then attended Brookings College in Brookings, S.D. and married Bernice Stiefel on July 6, 1955. The couple moved from Sioux Falls, S.D. to California in 1957. Mr. Handel worked in the grocery business until 1978 and then franchised a Goodyear Tire store with his brother-in-law for several years. He sold the franchise and worked a s a manager for Commercial Tire in San Jose for five years but due to illness he had to retire. He enjoyed gardening, camping, visiting his children and grandchildren and cheering on the San Francisco Giants. He was also a member of the Exchange Club in Hollister. Mr. Handel is survived by his wife of 51 years, Bernice Handel of Los Ba??os; children Dennis Handel of Torrance, David Handel of Huntington Beach, Steven Handel of Half Moon Bay, Kim Reeser of Oceanside; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at 12:30 p.m. followed by a service Wednesday, at 1 p.m. at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel, 16524 S. Center Ave., Los Ba??os.
