Schnabel was born May 1, 1928 near Eureka to Gottfried and Lydia (Maisch) Schnabel. His father was born at the family homestead, rural Eureka, October 19, 1897 and died August 24, 1961. His mother was born December 15, 1901 near Hillsview. They lived on the Schnabel homestead and John attended rural grade school. Other children born to this family are: Mrs. Emil (Freida) Feiock, Allen Schnabel, Mrs. Norman (Emilia) Mehlhoff, Mrs. Herbert (Irene) Herman, Martin Schnabel, Marvin Schnabel, Mrs. Reinie (Lorine) Guthmiller, Mrs. Elmer (Eleanor) Nies, Mrs. AlNathan (Darlene) Nies, Jimmy Schnabel and Milbert Schnabel who died in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. John G. Schnabel and family Johnnie Schnabel married Violet Frances Moser on September 26, 1948. She is the daughter of Carl and Ida (Frey) Moser, born October 16, 1930 at rural Hillsview. She attended rural school, Hosmer Public and Eureka Public Schools. Violet has two brothers: Floyd Carl and Delbert Raymond. Carl Moser was born near Eureka in 1910 and Ida was born near Hillsview in 1910. They live in Eureka. Johnnie and Violet Schnabel have two children: Larry John born October 29, 1951, married Judy Kay Hieb. They have two children: Kristie Marie and Thomas John; Susan Marie, born January 22, 1958, married Mark William Holzwarth. They have one daughter, Jessica Sue. The Schnabel's farm 14 miles southeast of Eureka. They are members of the United Church of Christ in Eureka. Johnnie is on the Board of Deacons, church choir member, past Sunday School teacher. Violet is a housewife, member of Ladies Aid, Sunday School teacher and church choir. Their greatest enjoyment is spending time with their grandchildren.
