February 21, 1977 Services for Katherine Dittus, 90, longtime Elgin resident, were at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 24, in Carson at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Donald Thurn officiating. Mrs. Dittus died Monday, February 21, 1977, at the Good Samaritan House, Mott. The former Katherine Bender was born April 08, 1886, in Dakota Territory near what is now Eureka, South Dakota. She came to the Elgin area in 1910 and worked in a genersl store. She married Adolph Dittus December 21, 1911, at Eureka. From 1915 until 1949 Mr. Dittus operated a hardware store in Elgin After his retirement they lived in Lodi, California, until Mr. Dittus died in 1963 and Mrs. Dittus returned to North Dakota. Survivors include one son, M J, Quartz Hill, California; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Lorraine) Well, Elgin, and Mrs. Martha Jacobs, Carson; three brothers, Julius Bender, Yakima, Washington, Albert Bender, Eureka, and Emil Bender, Alhambra, California; three sisters, Mrs. John Lapp and Mrs. Ervin Werre, both of Yakima, Washington, and Mrs. Magdalena Lapp, Eureka; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Pallbearers were James Well, Roy Dittus R E Bender, Gene Lineham, Edwin Sept and Reinholt Stern. Interment was made in First Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Carson, North Dakota.
