Submitter: Daily Obituary Posting Subject: Sister Mary Josephine Scher Message: From the Huntington Herald Press Online, August 24, 1999 Sister Mary Josephine Scher, 90, died at 10:20 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 21, 1999) at the Marian Catholic Health Care Center, Milwaukee, Wis. She was a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, entering the order Aug. 31, 1926. She made her first profession of vows July 23, 1930 and said her final vows July 23, 1936. She was born June 19, 1909 in Huntington to Henry J. and Lena Gelzleichter Scher. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Andrew (Dorothy) Stoltz, Mrs. Alfred (Marjorie) Meyer and Mrs. J.R. (Sue) Pfister, all of Huntington; four brothers, George Scher Sr. of Fort Wayne and Robert Scher, Eugene Scher, and Richard Scher, all of Huntington. She was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Hesting, and three brothers, Earl Scher, Delbert Scher, and James Scher. Calling is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, with recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m., at Hart Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with Father Ron Rieder officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the School Sisters of Notre Dame Retirement Fund.
