Birth: Jan. 3, 1830, Germany Death: Jan. 4, 1914 Monroe County Ohio, USA Jakob Friederich Bartenschlag was born in Magstadt, Württemburg, Germany, oldest son of Michael and Eva Catharina Eberle Bartenschlag. He was a carter, blacksmith and farmer. He married a distant cousin, Christiana Margaretha Klink, possibly around 1851. They came to America in June 1856 aboard the Ship Vancluse. The ship's passenger list shows that their second daughter, Louisa, died at sea. They came through the port of New York and settled in Pittsburg, PA where Fred worked in the steel mills until he lost an eye in an industrial accident. They then moved to Monroe County, Ohio and farmed. They Americanized their names to Frederick/Fred Sr. and Christina Cling Bartenschlag.
