Anna Thomas was born April 1, 1916, at Odense, the daughter of Phillip and Magdalena (Koch) Thomas. Raised and educated there, she married Jack F. Leingang on Nov. 27, 1934. They made their home near St. Anthony, before moving to Mandan 61 years ago. Anna's life reflected the importance she placed on home and family. She and Jack spent many happy hours together square dancing.
After his death on June 13, 1980, she spent a great deal of her time as a volunteer at both Medcenter One and St. Alexius Hospitals, for which she received special recognition. Until May of this year, when she became a resident of the Medcenter One Care Center in Mandan, she lived in her own home. Exceptionally skilled at embroidery and crocheting, Anna also loved to garden, both flowers and vegetables. She was a member of the Mandan Golden Age Club.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Robert Lighthizer, Mandan, and Shirley and Kenneth Leingang, White Bear Lake, Minn.; her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Valerie, Edmore; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Debra and Orven Swenson, Pat and Ron Wright, Rob and Lori Lighthizer, Scott and Laurie Leingang, David and Kim Leingang, Kim and Mark Braeger, Tara Leingang and Brett Leingang; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Minnie Long and her husband, Tom, Louisville, Ky., and Betty Stockert, Glendive, Mont.; and one brother, Richard Thomas, Spokane, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and seven brothers and sisters.
Anna's family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Medcenter One Care Center for the kind and loving care she received.
