    Marie Quirin

    Marie Quirin Marie Irene Quirin, nee Roos, 88, of Smithton, Ill., born Feb. 2, 1918, in Millstadt, Ill., died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at Freeburg Care Center, Freeburg, Ill. Mrs. Quirin was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Smithton, Ill., and the Women's Club at the church. She was a charter member and the first president of the Smithton Senior Citizens. She had organized and conducted a yearly Red Cross Blood Drive in Smithton for about 20 years. Marie also published and edited a local Smithton Newsletter for the community in the 1960's. She loved her family dearly and never hesitated to help them in any way, whether by moral support, financial support, babysitting, or just listening. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin G. Quirin, whom she married April 19, 1939, and who died June 2, 1988, after 49 years of marriage; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Robert Kennedy; a grandson, Brian King; her parents, George R. and Matilda, nee Rohr, Roos; her four sisters, Linda (Richard) Ehrstein, Tekla (Arthur) Kruse, Olivia (Dewey) Hirsh, and Isabella (Leo) Hermann; and her brother, Richard (Barbara) Roos. She is survived by her four remaining children, Francis (Susan) Quirin, Roger Quirin, and Elaine (Jerry) Sodam, all of Smithton, Ill., and Mark (Renee) Quirin of Belleville, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, Michael (Robin) Quirin, Paul Quirin, Suzy (Joe) Weilmuenster, Roger Quirin, Matt Quirin, Robert J.(Kerry) Kennedy II, Mary (Jim Wyckoff) Kennedy, Kerry (Aaron) Wendler, Jenny (Russ) Fellows, and Jeremy Sodam; three step-grandchildren, Rusty, Sally, and Mike; 20 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Fern Quirin of Smithton, Ill. The family wishes to thank, with utmost appreciation, the staff at Freeburg Care Center for their dedicated service and care of our dear mother since October 2000, the Eucharistic ministers of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Freeburg for their visits and prayers, Father Jerry Hechenberger, Unity Hospice, and those who either visited or sent her cards over the years.
